SLDLP #6 – 03/10/2019

On March 10th, 2019, we organized our 6th beach cleaning day, supported by the French Consulate in Hong-Kong and Macau.
For this event, the emphasis was on single-use plastics: volunteers worked in 6 selected areas, to clean-up, sort out PET (plastic 1), weigh all trash, and dispose of waste at the collection point designated by the government authorities. PET was then sent to the Hong Kong social enterprise “V-cycle”, for recycling, to help them fulfil their “10 Tonnes Challenge “ .
Cleaning the shores remains a necessity, but most important is to encourage a discussion on how to change habits, and raise awareness on daily use of plastics that could be avoided. In order to put theory into practice, participants were welcome to stay afterwards, for a plastic-free picnic.
